Accommodation & Meals
All tours include accommodation in guest houses with guaranteed hot water and private quarters. Food and beverages are all inclusive and the regional vegetarian cuisine is highly admired. You can choose from a selection of vegetarian and non-vegetarian traditional Indian, Spitian or Tibetan meals.
Guides & Staff
Our guides are all from the local communities and are well respected, experienced and educated. All guides speak English, Hindi and local dialects (normally as many as six different languages) and are dedicated to ensuring maximum exposure to the local environment for you and your group. Our porters and horsemen are drawn from the local communities and paid Fair Trade above market wages. We pay our staff for their return journey home so for an 8 day trek, we pay them 14 day salaries for their return trek home.
Transport
Vehicles and drivers are provided by specialist mountain taxi unions, ensuring a high standard of professionalism and experience. All vehicles are 4WD and come with air conditioning and accident insurance.
Internet
Internet is available in the main towns of Kaza and Tabo, with limited reliability dependent on weather conditions and electricity supply.
Telephone and Fax
STD(International), ISD(Inter-state) Telephone and Fax facilities are available in Kaza and Tabo.
Cell phone reception is not available throughout the valley and only BSNL the public carrier has service in the remote parts of India like Spiti.
Post
Postage is available in many of the smaller villages of Spiti as well as the main towns.
Banking
There is a State Bank of India branch in Kaza which is home to the world’s highest ATM cash machine!
Medical
Medical Facilities in Spiti are basic, although there is a well equipped hospital in Kaza there are only a few primary healthcare centers outside of the district headquarters. Traditional medicinal practitioners known as Amchi are present in every part of the valley and can provide preventative herbal remedies for most afflictions
