Itinerary:

This tour is open for photography enthusiasts at any levels of expertise.

We conduct this highly appreciated photography tour to make the best of Spiti's culture and landscapes with your camera. Working with well-known mentors in travel photography from Darter Photography, this tour is specially designed to maximize photography opportunities in Lahaul & Spiti. This tour will be led by an award winning photographer with a high level of knowledge of Lahaul & Spiti region.

DAY 1: MANALI

Arrive in Manali and meet your mentor for this tour. Your mentor will introduce you to the journey ahead, photography opportunities along the way and get you to understand how to make the best of photography opportunities in the region.

DAY 2: MANALI - KUNZUM PASS - KAZA

Start early in the morning towards Spiti. We make the picturesque journey through the high mountains, passing through Rohtang Pass. We drive along the beautiful Chandra River flanked by high mountains for a good part of the journey, until we start climbing again towards 15,000 feet high Kunzum Pass. In several occasions along the way, we will see the mountain slopes filled with tiny flowers.

From Kunzum, we enter Spiti Valley and start seeing villages again for the first time since we left Rohtang Pass. This time we drive along Spiti River that keeps our company. Tonight, we stay in Kaza.

DAY 3: KAZA and KI MONASTERY

We are at an altitude over ten thousand feet today. Our body takes time to adjust to the rarefied air, and requires acclaimatization. We rest it out for much of the day indoors, during which we will have discussions related to photography.

In the evening, we will visit the 800-year old Ki Monastery, which more than a hundred Buddhist monks living in the premises. The monastery offers excellent views of Spiti Valley.

DAY 3: KI MONASTERY, KOMIC AND LANGZA

We begin the day in leisure today and head towards the ancient Ki Monastery. The 800 year old monastery has some beautiful halls with a touch of past and a richly decorated prayer hall. The monastery also offers a brilliant valley view. From here, we head to Komic, one of the highest villages in the world and yet connected by motor roads, electricity and phone. We briefly stop at the local monastery, speak to the monks and then head towards Langcha.

Langcha Village is flanked by the sky-reaching CCKN peak, which is perennially snow bound and visible from everywhere in the village. Today, we will shoot some landscapes, wander along the sweet-pea fields, meet and chat up with villagers and eventually stay at the homes in the village.

DAY 4: LANGZA TO DHANKAR AND KAZA

We continue to shoot around the village in the morning hours and then head to Dhankar Lake. The lake is high up in the mountains and is an hour's walk from Dhankar Village. Through the afternoon, we spend time in Dhankar Lake and photograph it from every angle. During the descent, we marvel at the scale of the mountains against Dhankar Monastery which looks rather tiny, from a high-vantage point where we also see the confluence of Pin and Spiti Rivers. Tonight, we stay in Kaza.

DAY 5: KAZA TO CHANDRATAL

Today, we drive again past Kunzum Pass to reach Chandratal, easily one of the prettiest lakes in the high Himalayas. You will be amazed by its tranquil waters reflecting the snow peaks around it. We will have plenty of time today to wander around the lake, even circumambulate it and shoot from every possible angle. We may also see the lake-shore filled with colours varying from yellow to purple to white. Visiting the lake is an experience you will never forget. And with your photography mentor there with you, you are certain to come back with images that you will cherish. Tonight we camp in the vicinity of Chandratal Lake, which allows us to make another visit to the lake in the morning.

DAY 6: CHANDRATAL TO MANALI

This morning, we can make another early morning visit to Chandratal and enjoy the morning light over the lake. Subsequently, we head towards Manali, stopping along the way for photography opportunities by Chandra River. We will reach Manali after driving through Rohtang Pass, early in the evening. Stay will be at Manali.

DAY 7: MANALI

We bid goodbye to the beautiful mountains of the Himalayas and checkout after breakfast.
